The executive director will possess the typical executive director skill set:  financial management/oversight and resource development, program and event management/oversight, working with volunteer boards, marketing/outreach, and community/public relations.


Financial Growth and Sustainability:

  • Responsible for membership sales including obtaining new members and retaining existing members
  • Fundraising/non-dues revenue, benefits, programs, and retention
  • Build an infrastructure to support growth while maintaining quality, culture and reputation of the chamber
  • Obtain sponsors sales for all events including biennial community showcase
  • Responsible for oversight and adherence to annual budget
  • Oversee accounts receivable/payables
  • Work with Chamber accountant to finalize all budgets and tax returns
  • Manage chamber bank accounts
  • Oversee sales of directory/map advertising
  • Oversee Signature Biennial Community Showcase – largest event for chamber revenue


Marketing, Social Media and Public Relations

  • Build social media content relevant to promotion of the chamber, member’s businesses, community collaborations and partnerships
  • Remain up to date on best practices in marketing and social media for chambers
  • Responsible to maintain and build collaborations with local government, schools, key stake holders and community organizations
  • Approve flyers and promotional materials related to the chamber
  • Create chamber branded pieces including marketing materials and media content
  • Oversee all Chamber committee goals and activities, recruit committee members and provide guidance
  • Develop and implement chamber programs and measure effectiveness
  • Write timely press releases
  • Respond to all media outlets on behalf of the organization
  • Attend and support both chamber and member business activities
  • Attend community events representing the chamber
  • Attend city council meetings when matters on the agenda are relevant to chamber member businesses, or activities/issues that reflect the mission of the chamber on behalf of the organization
  • Promote business among members, refer public to member businesses, recognize member accomplishments


Working with the board

  • Oversees board agendas for monthly meetings
  • Oversee maintenance of board meeting record
  • Provide administrative reports
  • Make policy recommendations
  • Present budget for adoption along with budget committee
  • Act as liaison between members and board
  • Identify prospective board members
  • Conduct board orientation
  • Initiate board involvement


Office Administration

  • Provide supervision and evaluate employees
  • Develop and train staff
  • Lead person for vendor relationships and contract negotiations
  • Secures and maintains all necessary chamber certifications
  • Annual required reviews of Worker’s Compensation Plan
  • Negotiate Chamber D & O insurance and insurance liability plans with carriers
  • Keep registrations with state agencies current as needed
  • Oversees general operation of office including developing office procedures, records maintenance and master calendar



  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Significant sales experience
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Marketing and public relations experience preferred
  • Basic knowledge of finance
  • Basic understanding of Microsoft Office
